knotingale@yahoo.com BioThe basics: I am not your typical live journal user, I joined LJ in '05 for the Crochet community. Said community died due to controversy. Can't say that about needlework, usually, can you? So controversial that the fighting overwhelmed the ability of the group to sustain itself. I'm afaid it is not uncommon in LJ; that's why I say I'm not a typical user. I don't like the fighting. I spent much of my time on line in blog land now, but I keep this journal as a place to record my personal thoughts about knitting and crochet, among other things.
First, I learned to knit. After a few years of simple projects, I knitted several squares to make an afghan, and wanted to join them together with a decorative stitch. So I learned how to crochet and became totally "hooked" with the ease and speed of it. As a result, I gave up knitting altogether, but crocheted a few things, usually during the winter. Years later, I've started knitting again, and have found a new world: yarn shops! huge variation in types of yarn! thousands of patterns available on line! knitting blogs! Now I'm more hooked than ever.
Regarding Gardening: I have been an avid vegetable gardener, but don't grow vegetables right now--traveling interferes with crops. I have maintained landscaping around various houses, ranging from starting from the bare dirt to maintaining a "showplace" that was planted by someone else. Now I have roses, and contemplate vegetable gardening.
Regarding Birdwatching: I love it, but am not devoted to it. I do not maintain a "life list", but I do travel with binocs and bird books and can usually identify everything I spot, which probably means I never see anything unusual.
